Ethyl Acetate, often shortened to EA, is one of the most widely consumed ester solvents in India. Low toxicity relative to many alternatives, a pleasant odour, and excellent solvency make it a workhorse across printing, adhesives, pharmaceuticals, and coatings.
Supreme Petro Chemicals supplies Ethyl Acetate from Chennai to ink makers, flexible-packaging converters, adhesive producers, and pharmaceutical manufacturers across South India.
What Is Ethyl Acetate?
Ethyl Acetate has CAS number 141-78-6 and molecular formula C4H8O2. It is a clear, colourless, flammable liquid with a characteristic fruity odour and a boiling point of approximately 77°C. It is moderately miscible with water and fully miscible with common organic solvents, and it evaporates quickly — a key reason it is favoured in printing and packaging.
Industrial Uses of Ethyl Acetate in India
- Printing inks: A primary solvent in flexographic and gravure inks for flexible packaging, valued for fast, clean release.
- Adhesives: Used in lamination adhesives and pressure-sensitive systems.
- Pharmaceuticals: Used as a process and extraction solvent, and in selected crystallisation steps, where the correct grade and documentation are approved by QA.
- Coatings: Used in nitrocellulose lacquers and wood finishes.
- Flavours and fragrances: Used as a carrier solvent in selected formulations.
Grades and Purity
Ethyl Acetate is commonly available as 85/15 and 99% grades. The 99% grade is preferred where low water content matters — for instance, lamination adhesives and pharmaceutical use. The 85/15 grade (containing ethanol and water) is economical for general printing applications. Specify the grade clearly on the purchase order and request MSDS/SDS and CoA where documentation is required.
Packaging and Minimum Order
Ethyl Acetate is supplied in 200-litre MS drums, 1000-litre IBC tanks, and bulk tanker loads. MOQ varies by grade, packaging, and destination. For continuous production, sharing your monthly volume helps the supplier hold stock and dispatch on schedule.
Safety and Handling
Ethyl Acetate is highly flammable, with a flash point of approximately -4°C. Store in a cool, ventilated area away from heat, ignition sources, and strong oxidisers. Earth and bond containers during transfer. Follow the product SDS and site EHS procedure at all times.
