About this product
Sodium Gluconate (CAS 527-07-1, C6H11NaO7) is a white crystalline powder and the sodium salt of gluconic acid. It works as a set retarder and water-reducing admixture in concrete, and as a chelating agent that stays effective in strongly alkaline solutions — which is why it is specified in bottle-washing and alkaline cleaning formulations. We import Technical Grade material from Shandong Fuyang Bio-Tech Co., Ltd. (Dezhou, Shandong, China), assay 98.0 – 102.0% against the manufacturer's Certificate of Analysis, in 25 kg bags. We hold stock at our Redhills warehouse in Chennai and dispatch across South India.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the CAS number of sodium gluconate?
Sodium gluconate carries CAS number 527-07-1 and the chemical formula C6H11NaO7. It is the sodium salt of gluconic acid and is classified under HSN code 2918 16 00 for GST invoices and shipping documents.
What is sodium gluconate used for?
Buyers use sodium gluconate as a concrete set retarder and water-reducing admixture, and as a chelating agent in alkaline cleaning formulations, bottle washing and CIP cleaning. It is also used in metal surface treatment and derusting, as a textile dyeing and desizing auxiliary, and for scale and corrosion inhibition in water treatment.
Which industries buy technical-grade sodium gluconate, and why?
Concrete admixture blenders and ready-mix operations buy it as a set retarder and water-reducer: published laboratory work reports that it adsorbs on cement particles and complexes calcium, which delays hydration and so extends the time the concrete stays workable. Cleaning-chemical formulators buy it as a chelating agent that stays effective in strongly alkaline solutions, which is why it is specified for bottle washing and CIP cleaning. Metal-finishing, textile-processing and water-treatment plants buy it for derusting and surface treatment, as a dyeing and desizing auxiliary, and for scale and corrosion inhibition. We supply it as a raw material to those manufacturers; we do not make it. Our grade is technical only, so confirm suitability for your own application before ordering.
What grade and assay of sodium gluconate do you supply, and what does the COA specification say?
We supply Technical Grade sodium gluconate with an assay of 98.0 – 102.0%, imported from Shandong Fuyang Bio-Tech Co., Ltd. in China. The specification limits on the manufacturer's Certificate of Analysis are: white crystalline powder; whiteness (457 nm) 75% min; pH 6.2 – 7.8; loss on drying 0.3% max; reducing substances 0.4% max; chloride 0.07% max; sulphate 0.05% max; heavy metals 5 mg/kg max; lead 1 mg/kg max; arsenic 1 mg/kg max. These are specification limits, not results for a particular lot, so say on your enquiry if you need the Certificate of Analysis for the lot supplied.
Is your sodium gluconate food grade or pharma grade?
No. We supply Technical Grade only, and our Safety Data Sheet states that this grade is not supplied for food use. Sodium gluconate is also traded as a food additive in other grades, but that material carries its own specification and documentation, which we do not currently supply. If your application is food, pharmaceutical or personal care, tell us before you enquire so you are not quoted a grade that does not fit.
Is sodium gluconate a hazardous or dangerous good?
No. Sodium gluconate is not classified as a dangerous good for road, sea or air transport (ADR / IMDG / IATA) and carries no UN number. It is hygroscopic and cakes if exposed to humidity, so store it cool and dry in closed bags, off the floor and away from moisture; the shelf life is 24 months from manufacture in sealed bags. Fine powder can form a dust cloud, so control dust when tipping bags. Read the Safety Data Sheet before handling.
How is sodium gluconate packed and supplied?
It is packed in 25 kg bags. We import it from Shandong Fuyang Bio-Tech Co., Ltd., hold stock at our Redhills warehouse in Chennai and dispatch across South India; confirm dispatch timing for your quantity when you enquire. The Technical Data Sheet and Safety Data Sheet can be downloaded on this page.
How much sodium gluconate should I add to concrete?
We do not publish dose rates: the right dosage depends on your cement, mix design, temperature and the other admixtures in the mix, and is set by trial batches. Over-dosing is a real risk. In one published laboratory study on ultra-high-performance concrete (Materials, 2023), a higher dose prolonged setting several-fold, at 0.12% and above the mix had not fully set and had no strength at 1 day, and the authors recommend 0.03 – 0.09% for that mix. Start from your admixture supplier or a trial, not from a single figure.
