Sodium Ligno Sulphonate

Sodium ligno sulphonate is used as the lignosulphonate base from which concrete water-reducing (plasticising) admixtures are formulated — the finished admixtures are the products that conform to IS 9103 and to ASTM C494 Type A (water-reducing) or Type D (water-reducing and retarding); the raw powder itself is not an admixture to those standards. It is also used as a dispersant for dyestuffs, pigments and printing-ink pastes, as a dispersant in agrochemical wettable powders and water-dispersible granules, as a drilling-mud thinner, as a foundry sand and ore-pelletisation binder, as a ceramic deflocculant, as an animal-feed pellet binder where a feed-grade lot is supplied, and for dust suppression on unpaved roads.

Sodium ligno sulphonate carries CAS number 8061-51-6, registered as lignosulfonic acid, sodium salt (PubChem CID 25113562; ECHA InfoCard 100.111.815). Its ECHA List number is 617-124-1 — a List number assigned by ECHA, not an EINECS number, because lignosulfonates are UVCB substances. Note that it is sometimes abbreviated "SLS" in the Indian trade, which collides with sodium lauryl sulphate — always confirm the full chemical name on the order.

We supply a light brown to dark brown free-flowing powder with dry substance 95% minimum and active matter (lignosulphonate content) 68% minimum, packed in 25 kg bags on pallets. That is a tighter dry-substance figure than some widely traded commercial powder grades, which are sold from 93% dry matter upward, so lots are supplied against the producer's Certificate of Analysis. pH is grade-dependent — verify it from the COA for the specific grade.

A further distinct entry, CAS 68512-34-5, covers desulfonated or sulfomethylated sodium lignosulphonate, which is a chemically modified derivative and not the same material. Confirm which salt your formulation requires before ordering — they are not interchangeable.

It is not regulated as a dangerous good for road, sea or air transport in the sources reviewed, so no UN number, class or packing group applies, and it is not a marine pollutant.
