About this product

Thinners are blended solvent products used to reduce the viscosity of paints, lacquers and NC (nitrocellulose) finishes so they flow, brush and spray correctly, and to clean guns, rollers and equipment afterwards. We supply General Purpose / NC and Commercial grades sourced from Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL), in 200 L drums and tins. Stock is held at our Redhills, Chennai warehouse for dispatch across South India — call or WhatsApp +91 86087 80096 for a quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CAS number of thinner?

Thinner has no single CAS number — it is a blend of solvents, not one substance, so the CAS field is left blank on our TDS. For documentation and customs, use HSN code 3814 00 10.

What does NC stand for in NC thinner, and how is it different from general purpose thinner?

NC stands for nitrocellulose — NC thinner is the blend used to reduce nitrocellulose lacquers and wood polishes. We supply it as a General Purpose / NC grade, alongside a Commercial grade. Both are covered by the same typical commercial-grade specification; there is no single published numeric standard for the blend.

What are the key specifications of thinner — flash point, specific gravity and distillation range?

Our thinner is clear and free from suspended matter, colour 20 max (Pt-Co), specific gravity 0.80 – 0.88 at 30 °C, distillation range 60 – 145 °C, and flash point (Abel) 23 °C max. Non-volatile matter is 0.05 % mass max, water content nil, and evaporation is complete with no residue.

Is thinner flammable? What is its UN number?

Yes — thinner is a highly flammable liquid and vapour, shipped as UN 1263, Class 3. Keep it away from heat, sparks and open flames, and use it only with adequate ventilation, as the vapour may cause drowsiness and dizziness.

Who supplies thinner in 200 litre drums in Chennai?

We do. Supreme Petro Chemicals has traded industrial chemicals from Chennai since 1997 and supplies CPCL thinner in 200 L drums and tins from our Redhills warehouse, with dispatch across South India. Order sizes depend on packaging and current stock — call or WhatsApp +91 86087 80096 for availability and a quote.

Can I get a TDS and MSDS for thinner?

Yes. A technical data sheet (document SPC-TDS-OTH-005) and an MSDS are both available for download on this page, covering grades, specifications and safe handling.
